Biography
Ricardo Manuel dos Santos Teixeira Matosinhos was born on the 6th of December, 1982 in Valpaços, in "Trás-os-Montes", in North-East of Portugal, but now lives in Rio Tinto (near Oporto).
He had contact with the music since early age, but only in 1994 decided to make it official at the Escola Profissional de Arte de Mirandela, where he completed the Course of
Wind Instrument with the horn teacher Ivan Kucera.
In 2000 he went to the Escola Superior de Música das Artes do Espectáculo (in Oporto) where he studied with Bohdan Šebestik. In 2004 he graduated with the Prize Eng. António de Almeida and “Prémio Rotary Club Porto Foz / Veloso & Troca, Lda". (prize for the best ESMAE student of the year 2003/2004).
He had a scholarship from Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation from 1998 to 2004.
In 2007 he won the 2nd prize on French Horn, superior level of the of the "Prémio Jovens Músicos" competition in Portugal.
Ricardo has participated in various seminars and
orchestras, like: Orquestra Portuguesa das Escolas de Música 1997/1998, Seminário da Orquestra "Sinfonieta" (1998,2000), 2º Estágio da Orquestra Clássica Juvenil "Bracara Augusta. 98", Interpretation Courses (in Nové Strasecí - Czech Republic),(1999, 2000, 2005, 2006 e 2007), 2º Estágio da Orquestra Aproarte (2000), among others.
In March 2001 he played with the UMO Jazz Orchestra in the Tribute to Miles, with the solo jazz trumpet player John Faddis with Maria Schneider as conductor.
He was at the 49th Neerpelt Music Festival (Belgium) with the Capela Brass Quintet, at which they won one first place.
Professionally, he has already played with orchestras such as: "Mundo da Lua", Orquestra Académica, Orquestra "Sinenomine", Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, Orquestra de Câmara "Musicare", Orquestra do Norte, a Remix Orquestra, Remix Ensemble e a Orquestra Nacional do Porto. He also participated in the sound recording of the movie "Maria e as Outras".
In the course of these seminars and professional engagements he has worked with these conductors: António Mesquita, António Ferreira dos Santos, António Vassalo Lourenço, António Saiote, António Soares, Arnold Allum, Cesário Costa, Daniel Schweitzer, Daniel Rowland, Dominique My, Ernst Shelle, Franck Ollu, Fernando Eldoro, Florin Totan, Gary Daverne, Graeme Jenkins, Ivo Cruz, James Tuggle, Jean Marc Burfin, Laurence Cummings, Leonardo de Barros, Luís Carvalho, Marc Tardue, Maria Schneider, Martin André, Max Rabinovitsj, Pedro Queirós, Peter Rundel, Omri Hadari, Ricardo Averbach, Roberto Perez, Robert Sadin, Rolf Gupta, Stefan Asbury, Vasco Pierce de Azevedo and Yuri Naschuskin. And with the hornplayers: Ab Koster, Arkady Shilkloper, Barry Tuckwell, Bedrich Tylšar, Bruno Schneider, David Jonson, Francis Orval, Frøydis Ree Wekre, Hermann Baumann, Ivan Kucera, Jan Schroeder, Javier Bonet, Jindrich Petrás, Jiri Havlík, Laurent Rossi, Michael Höltzel, Paulo Guerreiro, Pip Eastop, Stefan Dohr, Thomas Müller, Tom Redmond, Vidal Santos, Vladimíra Klánská e Zdenek Divoký.
He has previously taught at Conservatório de Música de Águeda, at Colégio de Nossa Senhora do Rosário (Porto), at Escola de Artes da Bairrada, at Escola Profissional Artes de Mirandela and at Academia de Música de Lousada, and at masterclasses such as: VI Curso de Aperfeiçoamento Musical na Academia de Amadora de Artes de Ponte de Lima (2004), Curso de Música de Câmara da FAMDA (2004, 2005), MasterClass Taveiro (2006)and the XV Internacional Music Course (2007) in Oliveira do Bairro.
Ricardo is currently teaching at Escola Profissional Artística do Vale do Ave (ARTAVE), at Centro de Cultura Musical, at Academia de Música de Oliveira de Azeméis and at Academia de Música de Costa Cabral.
He is also exploring the possibilities of French horn in jazz and taking lessons with saxophonist Mário Santos.
